What It Pairs With
A current board with a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot — on AM5 that is usually the primary position on X670E, X870 and X870E boards, and on Intel the equivalent slot on Z790 and Z890. Fit it under the board’s own M.2 cover rather than leaving it bare. It suits a machine used for editing or rendering in the evening and games at the weekend, where nobody wants to think about which volume a file belongs on.
Who This Isn’t For
A board with no PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot. It will work in a 4.0 slot and run at 4.0 speeds, but you would be paying for an interface the machine cannot reach — send us the model and we will check before you order rather than after. It is also not for a slot left bare with no cover and no air moving past it; Gen5 drives put out real heat and want somewhere to put it.

Do I need a PCIe 5.0 slot?
To get the interface you are paying for, yes. Send us your motherboard model and we will confirm which slot runs at Gen5 and whether it shares lanes with the graphics card slot, which some boards do.
Will it make games load faster?
A little. Game loading is limited by decompression and by the engine more than by the drive, so the interface earns its keep on large file work. This drive happens to be strong at both, which is why it works as the only drive in a machine that does both.
Is the board’s own heatsink enough?
On almost every current board, yes. The M.2 covers on X870 and Z890 boards are substantial and were designed with Gen5 drives in mind, so a separate cooler is rarely needed. We will confirm it for your board before you order.
