What It Pairs With
A build at the top of the range, because 4K asks a great deal of a graphics card and the whole idea here is that you get to choose the setting rather than be forced into one. DisplayPort 2.1 or HDMI 2.1 with the supplied cable, and a desk deep enough to sit about 70 to 80cm back from a 32-inch panel. It also makes a very good screen for film, which is worth knowing if the machine lives in a living room as well as an office.
Who This Isn’t For
A machine that spends most of its life showing the same toolbars, taskbar and spreadsheet borders in the same pixels, eight hours a day. That is the workload OLED is least suited to, and no amount of built-in protection makes it the ideal choice for it. It is also the wrong buy for a card that cannot reach past 60fps at 4K, because half of what the panel offers would go unused. Can my card actually drive 4K at 240Hz?
In most games, not at both at once — and that is the point of the panel rather than a problem with it. You run demanding titles at full resolution and lower frame rates, and competitive ones at reduced settings and very high frame rates. Does 1440p look bad on a 4K panel?
At 32 inches, 1440p scales cleanly enough for gaming because it is an exact quarter of the pixel grid. Text is another matter, so keep the desktop at native resolution and change it inside the game instead.
