What It Pairs With
A Ryzen 9 or Core Ultra 9 with a card near the top of the range is the load this is sized for, and it is also the load where the efficiency difference is worth the most, because a machine that draws a lot is a machine that wastes a lot. Mount it so its fan exhausts straight out of the case rather than back into it, and pair it with a case that actually moves air — the heat this unit does produce still has to leave the building somehow.
Who This Isn’t For
A machine that is switched on for an hour in the evening never accumulates enough running time for the efficiency to return what the higher rating costs — that arithmetic only closes on a machine that is on for hours, most days. The same applies to a light build: at a small fraction of this unit’s rating it is not operating anywhere near the load band where Platinum does its best work, and the certificate on the box goes largely unused.
Common Questions
Will a Platinum unit pay for itself on the electricity bill?
On a heavily used machine, over years, it contributes. We would not sell it to you on that basis alone. The more immediate return here is the heat that never enters the room in the first place, which your air conditioning would otherwise have to remove.
Does wasting less heat make the machine quieter too?
Indirectly, yes. Less heat inside the case means every fan has less work to do, so the whole machine settles at lower speeds rather than only the supply.
Is 1000W the right size for a top-end card?
